Goa is rejoicing the series of top-notch sports events in the state with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant emphasising the commitment to develop a strong sports culture in the state.
On the sidelines of the prestigious FIDE World Cup 2025 being played in North Goa, the Chief Minister graced the occasion on Tuesday to make the ceremonial first move in the match between World Champion D Gukesh and GM Kazybek Nogerbek; in the presence of Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, MLA Pravin Arlekar, Grandmaster Abhijeet Kunte among others.
“It is a proud and historic moment for Goa to host one of the most prestigious events in world chess. This tournament is not only a milestone for our state and country, but also a remarkable chapter for the global chess fraternity. I wholeheartedly welcome all players, coaches, and chess enthusiasts to Goa. It is heartening to see our state becoming a vibrant hub for international sporting events.
“Goa is committed to fostering a strong sports culture. Our Government will continue to support world-class sporting events and encourage sports participation across the state,” asserted Dr Sawant.
