One of Goa’s oldest traditional festival ‘Chikal Kalo’ was celebrated at Devaki Krishna Temple ground, Marcel on Friday; with new-found fanfare as the Government of Goa recognises the importance of such heritage celebrations to boost the spiritual tourism in the state.

Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte participated in the festivity, along with hundreds of youth and elderly men. Billed as the ‘Mud Festival of Goa’,  reports have suggested that the government wants to promote ‘Chikal Kalo’ on the lines of Spain’s ‘Tomatina’ festival.
