PANAJI: With contact-less way of life being the norm in COVID times, technology is coming to the rescue of the society! ‘Extraction of non-invasive fetal ECG using intelligent algorithms and techniques’ is the research project of Dr. Niyan Marchon, a Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) researcher at the Indian Institute of Technology Goa. And the innovation is set to calm the nerves of pregnant women and their families too, as the health checks of the fetus could become possible without visiting a doctor.
“My research work involves simulating and testing various algorithms to extract the non-invasive fetal ECG information from the maternal abdomen recordings. It will then intelligently compute the fetal heart rates patterns and thus continuously access the fetal health status. This technique can help mothers monitor the fetus health 24×7 and simultaneously report to the doctor remotely. This technique can be a boon especially during these COVID times when the mother may not have to visit the clinic often,” Dr Marchon told www.livenewsgoa.com. After working on the simulations, he will begin with the clinical work.
Dr Marchon, who works as an Associate Professor and is the Head of Research, Development Consultancy Centre (RDCC) at Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna; is being guided in his PDF research by Professor (Dr.) Bidyadhar Subudhi, Dean of Research and Development and Dr. Sujit Sahoo both from IIT Goa. He is being funded by Department of Science and Technology, Goa.
Dr. Marchon, who has published 35 research papers in the areas of Biomedical and Signal processing in International Journals and conferences, has 22 years of service in the academic fraternity itself with additional two years of industry experience such as Texas Instruments, Bangalore and Mahindra Network Services, Pune.
Dr Marchon holds the rare recognition of having been awarded the ‘Cambridge International Certificate for Teachers and Trainers at Professional Level’ with Distinction by the University of Cambridge (UK) at the International examinations.
