FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN ‘BANKING FOR BUSINESS PROCESS’

Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) and Goa State Higher Education Council, Government of Goa in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services organised a five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) from 30th January to 3rd February, 2023, at DHE, Porvorim on the topic ‘Banking for Business Process’.

The FDP was an initiative under the Training
Internship and Placement Cell in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020. Industrial experts from the banking sector shared their industrial experiences and knowledge through interactive sessions. A total of 46 faculty from 19 Higher Education Institutes offering Bachelors in Commerce across Goa, attended the programme.

The FDP started with an Inaugural function. Vandana Sawant compered the inaugural function where Prasad Lolayekar, IAS- Director of Directorate of Higher Education and Executive Director of Goa State Higher Education Council, welcomed the faculty and thanked their respective principals for deputing them. Jesal Kapadia, Center of Excellence Lead, TCS, briefly addressed about the topics that would be covered during the FDP. Prof. Niyan Marchon, Professor of Teaching, Learning & Educational Technology section, Goa State Higher Education Council shared his insights about the objectives of the FDP and that the Government-Industry collaborative FDP was to equip the faculty with skills, knowledge and inspiration to conduct banking-related add-on courses in their respective institutions to upskill the students with the necessary skills to further improve employability.

Prof. Vithal Tilvi, Professor of Research, Development & Innovation section, Goa State Higher Education Council gave the vote of thanks.

The speakers for the various sessions of the FDP included Jesal Kapadia, Retail Banking Center of Excellence Lead; Anupama Patil, Manager BFSI CBO; Chandrakala B, Domain Consultant – BFSI.

Topics such as Retail and Corporate Banking, Functioning of Debit and Credit cards, Mortgages, Cash Management, and Trade Finance, were covered over the course of five days.

The FDP ended with the valedictory function. Saurabh Naik was the compere for the function. The special invitee was Dr. Kastub Kamat, Assistant Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa.

Saurabh thanked the faculty for their active participation and request a few faculty to share their feedback on the five-day FDP.

Most faculty said that the FDP was a very fruitful and the Academia-Industry collaboration with resource persons from the banking field gave them the first hand information, something they could go back and share with their respective students. Dr. Kastub Kamat and Chandrakala from TCS later handed out the participation certificates to all the faculty who had attended the FDP.
