June 7th is the World Food Safety Day! The theme for this year is “Food Safety: prepare for the unexpected”. The theme underlines the importance of being prepared for food safety incidents, no matter how mild or severe they can be.

Food Safety requires dedicated efforts from policy-makers, food safety authorities, farmers and food business operators; while consumers also play an active role. Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Goa organised a FoSTaC training (Food Safety Training and Certification) which trained over 50 Food Business Operators holding a Registration Certificate. The training was conducted by D&D Strategic Consulting, which is an FSSAI approved FoSTaC training company.

The event began with a welcome speech by Food Safety Officer, Safia Khan. The Director FDA Goa, Jyoti Sardesai, spoke about the importance of food safety on daily basis to curb the spread of food borne diseases; and stressed on the fact that food safety is a shared responsibility of all the stakeholders, including the consumers. This was followed by the administration of the pledge on food safety, and then the FoSTaC training.
