PANAJI: Manipal Hospitals, Dona Paula, in association with Goa Football Association (GFA); will launch the ‘Basic Life Support’ training programme for football players and officials at the conference hall, Manipal Hospitals at Dona Paula on Sunday.

According to a press release by GFA, Jones Samuel, PRO of Manipal Hospitals stated that the BLS sessions will be conducted by the Sports Medicine and Critical Care team of the Hospital and will be held on alternate Sundays. In the first phase it will cover all 12 Goa Professional Club teams. The objective is to train as many football players and officials in providing basic life support with the sole aim of saving precious lives, added Jones.

Every year we lose football players while playing and as such it was felt that if there were sufficiently trained persons in providing basic life support, like what was seen in the case of Denmark’s Christian Eriksen in the Euro Cup match last June, it would help in saving precious lives, stated Churchill Alemao, GFA president. “I fully support the Manipal Hospital proposal and with the Executive Committee backing it, the GFA will see that all affiliated clubs take the benefit of the programme,” he said.

The first session on Sunday will be attended by the players and officials of Churchill Brothers FC, disclosed Valanka Alemao, CEO of Churchill Bros. Besides, 10 other coaches will also attend the inaugural session stated the press release.
