Goa Anti-Tobacco Film Festival 2023 saw a whopping 29 entries in what was it’s fifth edition. The response indicated that the festival is growing and the organisers are keen to use the audio-visual media to send the message loud and clear that substance abuse will ruin lives. This time, the theme of the festival was ‘We need food, not tobacco’ in order to encourage farmers to look at options other than tobacco cultivation.
Organised by Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Goa Dental College and Hospital in collaboration with National Tobacco Control Programme, Directorate of Health Services, Goa; to commemorate the World No-Tobacco Day – the competition was held in two sections, National Section Ad films and Goan section Ad films.
The winners of Ad Film for National Section:
1st Prize Rs. 1,00,000 (“Tink,u ,Weds Madhubala” – Satish R. Gaonkar)
2nd Prize Rs. 50,000 (“Alaav” – KickFairy Productions)
3rd Prize Rs. 30,000/- (“Nirnay” – Amit S. Phadte).
The winners of Ad Film for Goa Section:
1st Prize Rs. 50,000/- (“Dhuvar” – Omkar Kalidas Naik)
2nd Prize Rs. 30,000/- (“Smoke & Soil” – Kartik Sandip Karekar)
3rd Prize Rs. 20,000/- (“Moment” – Manmesh Kerkar).
Dr Meena Aras, Professor and Head, Department of Prosthodontics, Goa Dental College and Hospital, Dr Shaheen Syed , Consultant Physiatrist, Asilo Hospital, DNO, DTCC N Goa, and Sachin Chatte, Film Critics, were the jury members, who judged all the entries at the competition.
Delilah M. Lobo, MLA Siolim Constituency & Vice Chairman, ESG, Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, ESG; Dr. Anita Spadigam, Professor and Head, Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Goa Dental College and Hospital, and Dr. Amita Kenkre, Dentist and Professor, Goa Dental College, gave away the prizes.
All the Ad. films were screened at Maquinez Palace auditorium for the public, on the occasion.
