VAGATOR BEACH: ‘Mrs United Nations 2019’ Jessica Snock and Dempo Sports Club’s technical director Anju Turambekar lauded the exclusive girls beach football event organised by Singh Sports Ventures as part of the Goa Beach Soccer ‘grassroots festival’ series in collaboration with Goa Football Association and Sports Authority of Goa, here on Republic Day.
Apart from girls from the grassroots category, the state players from under-16 and senior teams also took part in the Goa Beach Soccer event to celebrate the National Girl Child Week.
Winner of the ‘Mrs United Nations 2019’ beauty pageant Jessica Snock from Nagaland, who was the presenting sponsor of the day’s event, was delighted to see the strength and courage of the girls to play in tough windy conditions. She hailed the organisers for women-empowerment through football.
Dempo Sports Club’s technical director and A-Licence coach Anju Turambekar underlined the challenges encountered in coming up with a women-centric event, while appreciating the meticulous work that goes into planning such a programme.
All India Football Federation’s head of coach education, Savio Medeira called upon the girls to participate in a bigger number as such initiatives require a lot of effort and women must make the most of the opportunity. He also stressed on the AIFF’s continuing focus on beach soccer educators development in order to provide the best conditions to nurture this format of the sport in India.
The Goa Beach Soccer series events, which have been held at Calangute, Miramar, Colva, Bogmalo and Vagator till now; are being organised in accordance with the AIFF and AFC guidelines. Legendary former forward and captain, Arjuna Awardee Bruno Coutinho is the guiding light for the event.
Goa Beach Soccer grassroots festival is also supported by Super 30, Play Goa, Visao de Campo and Coco-Leni eyewear.
