The Guirim-based Goa Jazz Academy (GJA) today announced the launch of GJA Records, a label designed to exclusively help its students release their own music.

A media release issued by GJA stated that the label completes a full-lifecycle model at the academy, where students learn an instrument, perform, write, record, produce and release, guided by mentors at every stage.

GJA Records opens with “Circles”, a new jazz single by Erika Shauna Pereira, a student of The Goa Jazz Academy.

According to GJA director, Divya Gupta, Erika came to the school as a passionate beginner-performer but over two years built her skills through songwriting, singing lessons and mentorship classes. “Erika took her song into the studio for recording and production, and finally to release her own original music,” Divya said.

Says Karan Khosla, director, GJA, “We are really proud of the work Erika has done to release “Circles” – to see her and her music go from strength to strength gives us encouragement, in what we are trying to do here at GJA.”

“Circles” is a straight ahead jazz tune written in a very important jazz form known as, “Rhythm Changes” by Erika. Says Erika, “GJA is the best academy and music community for aspiring musicians like me. They have helped me grow as a singer-songwriter and performer and it is always a delight to be a part of this community.

A huge shoutout to the amazing faculty members Karan, Kritika, Manan and Sahil for being a part of this journey and playing on the track, and Smruti, my vocal faculty, for guiding me with the composition.”

“Circles” is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and all major platforms.
