PANAJI: Noted Goan poet, Shankar Ramani’s birth centenary year will be celebrated over three days from June 24-26, across the state; according to a press release.
Dr. Nitin Borkar, Convenor of the Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, said that the Goa University, Director of Art & Culture, President of Goa Marathi Akademy, President of Goa Konkani Akademi, Chairman, Institute Menezes Braganza & Sahitya Akademi along with the literary community and the Ramani family are jointly celebrating the birth centenary.
Shankar Ramani, the celebrated Goan poet had contributed significantly to Marathi and Konkani poetry between 1950-2003. Ramani published seven books of Marathi poetry and four books of Konkani poetry. He was the recipient of several awards which included the Sahitya Academy Award in 1997.
26 June 2022 marks the birth centenary of Shankar Ramani. The three-day programme will see a two-day Sahitya Akademi seminar, musical programmes featuring Ramani’s poems and the release of three books in Marathi and Konkani of Ramani’s poems and letters. A national-level Shankar Ramani Poetry Appreciation Competition will also be held for Marathi and Konkani poetry.
An exhibition will showcase the life and works of the poet and a souvenir will highlight his specific contribution to the world of poetry. A documentary film will also be screened on the occasion.
