GOA TRIATHLON ASSOCIATION LOOKING TO FORM STATE TEAM FOR ‘NATIONAL QUALIFIERS’

PANAJI: Goa Triathlon Association (GTA) is looking to form a team to participate in the National Triathlon Qualifiers to be held from September 24-26 in Chennai, according to a media release on behalf of Ironman Triathlete, Nisha Madgavkar, who is also the secretary of Goa Triathlon Association.

According to Madgavkar, this is the first qualification event for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in 2022. The Tamil Nadu Triathlon Association event will be held at the Centre for Sports Science (CSS), Sri Ramachandra University Campus, Porur, Chennai; under the aegis of the Indian Triathlon Federation (ITF).

“Athletes with the best timing in the sprint distance, Olympic distance and mixed relay (team) events will be invited for the national camps and provisionally considered for selection to the Indian contingent for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK and the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzou, China, subject to performances and Government of India approval,” said Madgavkar.

National Qualifiers will comprise of Triathlon standard distance for men and women (18 years and above), Triathlon mixed team relay (16 years and above), Triathlon super sprint distance (men and women, 14-15 age group), Triathlon sprint distance (men and women, 16-17 age group),  Triathlon standard distance for men and women (40 years and above) and Para-Triathlon for men and women (18 years and above). Triathletes would need to swim in a man-made lake and cycle and run inside the college campus on a flat tarred road, added the press release.
