GOA’S FIRST-EVER SHACKATHON TAKES REMOTE WORK BEYOND THE CONVENTIONAL

Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C), today inaugurated the first-ever ‘Goa Shackathon’ at Baga Beach at the hands of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. The two-day initiative has brought together startups, innovators, creators, entrepreneurs, students and remote professionals from across the country. The event focusses on innovation, networking, collaboration and the future of work in a unique beachside setting.

Conceptualised as a next-gen collaborative platform, Shackathon aims to redefine conventional workspaces. The initiative highlights Goa’s growing emergence as a destination for remote work, innovation and creative entrepreneurship. It also creates opportunities for startups, creators and professionals to connect, exchange ideas and build meaningful collaborations.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, said, “The way the world works has changed fundamentally. Young professionals today seek flexibility, creativity, quality of life and meaningful work environments. We want people to look at Goa not only as a holiday destination, but also as a place where ideas are transformed into reality, startups are launched and innovation thrives.”

He further said that Goa aims to emerge as a leading destination for ‘Work from Goa’ and become a thriving hub for digital nomads and the digital economy. He added that initiatives like Goa Shackathon will create new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship while helping Goan youth access global opportunities while remaining connected to their roots and culture.

The first day of the event, themed ‘Hustle and High Tides’, featured discussions on artificial intelligence, robotics, storytelling, communication and building companies from Goa. Tomorrow, under the theme ‘Creators and Coastlines’, the focus will shift towards creators, designers, freelancers, students and media professionals.

The event was also graced by Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and Tourism Rohan Khaunte;  MLA Bicholim and Chairman of InfoTech Corporation of Goa Limited Chandrakant Shetye; MLA Calangute, Michael Lobo; MLA Saligao Kedar Naik; Secretary, Information Technology Santosh Sukhadeve; Director, DITE&C Kabir Shirgaonkar; Managing Director InfoTech Corporation of Goa Limited Praveen Volvotkar; along with senior government officials, industry experts, creators and participants from across the country.
