Goa’s IM Nitish Belurkar has been crowned the champion at Satish Anna All-India Open Rapid Chess Tournament held in Belgaum, Karnataka.
Nitish remained undefeated scoring 8.5 points out of 9 rounds, with 8 wins and a draw. Among others, Nitish defeated fellow Goan FM Ritviz Parab, CM Karthik Sai Ch of Hyderabad and drew with IM Sammed Shete of Kolhapur. Sailesh R of Chennai emerged the runner-up with 8 points.
Among the Goans, FM Ritviz Parab was placed third with 7.5 points. Mandar Lad and Rishikesh Parab were placed 9th and 18th with 7 points and 6.5 points respectively.
In the age-group category, Goan players who garnered prizes were – Asmita Ray, 1st Prize, U14; Mayuresh Desai, 3rd Prize U14; Shourya Pednekar, 4th Prize , U16; Shresth Ghonsekar, 5th prize U8; and Arthav Shirodker, 10th prize in U10 category.
