PANAJI: A majority of us know cricket and all the rules that govern the sport, which is like a religion in India! However, if we turn those rules on its head, how would that impact cricket? That is exactly what tech-entrepreneur Venu Somineni’s first Hindi Feature Film ‘Asli Cricket’ wants us to imagine and experience!
On the sidelines of 52nd IFFI here in Goa, www.livenewsgoa.com caught up with Venu Somineni, who is the director and producer of this sports drama, to know more about his film ‘Asli Cricket’, which has many debutantes and was shot mostly in Gujarat.
“There are many films related to cricket in Bollywood. But the interesting thing about my film is that, for the first time ever, we brought in new rules for century-old cricket governing how you play cricket with different rules, rather challenging rules! A batsman can challenge a bowler and other way round on a specific ball saying ‘this is what I am going for’. And based on that result, the score would change,” explained Venu Somineni, who believes that anybody watching this film will try to play cricket in a different way with these rules to make it even more fun and challenging.
Venu Somineni is upbeat about taking his film across to the global audience as cricket is now spreading to newer regions apart from where the sport is hugely followed. ” We are getting requests from other countries like West Indies and UK. So we may plan to dub into English,” he claimed and also acknowledged that the OTT platform is also an option to market his film.
‘Asli Cricket’ is not only about the sport aspect of the game, but has an emotional climax, hammering a message of humility. And while for the technology entrepreneur, disruption is a way of life; the plot of Venu Somineni’s film is bound to create an interesting conflict in the minds of conventional cricket lovers!
