In a significant initiative aimed at empowering persons with disabilities, the Goa State Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, organised a Cyber Security Awareness session on Saturday. The event took place at the Lok Adalat Hall, located within the premises of the Goa State Legal Services Authority, High Court of Bombay at Goa.
The half-day session, specifically designed for persons with disabilities, was conducted by advocate Eeshan Usapkar. It witnessed the participation of over 55 government employees with various disabilities from different departments across Goa. Senior officials and judges from the High Court of Bombay at Goa were also in attendance, underscoring the importance of the event.
Highlighting the need of such sessions to be conducted regularly, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar states: “Creating awareness about Cyber Security is crucial, especially for persons with disabilities who often face increased risks of financial fraud and cybercrimes. By promoting essential aspects of Cyber Security, we aim to empower everyone to navigate the digital world safely and protect their personal and financial well-being.”
Participants found the session to be insightful, informative, and empowering. The programme highlighted essential aspects of cyber security, aiming to curb financial fraud and cyber- crimes that disproportionately affect persons with disabilities. This initiative, a first of its kind in Goa, was lauded for its proactive approach in addressing these critical issues.
The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, along with the Goa State Legal Services Authority, have been at the forefront of efforts to empower persons with disabilities through various awareness activities. This latest initiative reflects their ongoing commitment to fostering a safer and more inclusive environment for all.
