‘International Day of the Girl Child’ was celebrated on Wednesday. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant stressed on the central government scheme of ‘Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana’ to support girl child’s financial needs.
Addressing the gathering at the ‘Balika Shakti Diwas’ event organised by GoaMiles, Dr Sawant explained the significance of ‘Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana’ where the central government via nationalised banks/India Post, contribute same amount as monthly savings by girl’s family, and the total amount is available once the girl turns 18 years old. “At that stage, the savings will help in meeting the higher educational expenses in particular,” remarked the CM.
Elsewhere, District Collector North Goa, Dr. Sneha S. Gitte, IAS, lighted the traditional lamp to mark the celebration of International Day of the Girl Child on the theme – “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being” organised by Directorate of Health Services – Goa at IMB, Panaji.
Dy. Director DHS, Dr. Rupa Naik, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Uttam Dessai, Medical Officer, Dr. Preetam Naik and others were also present.
