As the Indian Super League (ISL) charges forward into another gripping gameweek, all eyes turn to the clash between FC Goa and Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 pm, the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, the Gaurs’ home turf, is set to host what promises to be a thrilling encounter between two of the most prominent names in the league at the moment. With Goa firmly entrenched in the upper echelons of the league table and Mohun Bagan eager to climb higher, the result of this upcoming contest will have a big impact on the eventual standings.
In anticipation of the upcoming clash, FC Goa head coach, Manolo Marquez expressed confidence in his squad’s abilities while acknowledging the challenge posed by the visitors.
“We are fully aware of the strength and quality Mohun Bagan Super Giant bring to the field. They have several players that can decide the fate of the game with just one action,” stated Marquez. “They won the first five games of their campaign, and were then regarded as favourites to win the title.
“All of this said, our focus has to remain on ourselves. We know perfectly well that this will be a difficult game for us, so we are thinking only about playing our way. That way, we know that this will be a difficult match for them too,” he further added.
FC Goa enter the match with an impressive track record in the current ISL season, having secured eight wins and four draws in 12 matches, remaining unbeaten thus far. Sitting in second place on the league table with 28 points, the Gaurs are within striking distance of the top spot, currently occupied by Odisha FC.
A victory against Mohun Bagan would not only propel the Men in Orange back to the summit but also bolster their pursuit of the ISL League Shield.
On the other hand, Mohun Bagan, positioned fourth on the table with 23 points, seek to capitalize on their recent momentum following a triumph over Hyderabad FC. With seven wins and three losses in 12 matches, the Mariners will aim to arrest FC Goa’s undefeated streak and climb higher in the standings.
