KARUNA FOOTBALL FOUNDATION’S NATIONAL RESIDENTIAL GIRLS ACADEMY LAUNCHED IN GOA

PANAJI: Karuna Football Foundation’s national residential girls football academy was launched on the National Sports Day (August 29) at Holy Rosary Convent High School, Nuvem.

According to a press release, the objective of the academy is to promote football among underprivileged girls.

The academy was inaugurated at the hands of V. M. Prabhudesai, Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa; Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, Chairman of Goa Football Development Council; Savio Madeira, Technical Director of All India Football Federation, in the presence of a host of Goan football stalwarts.

Even before the launch of the academy, the foundation had started working and fielded  ‘Compassion’ in Goa Football Association’s various age-group tournaments initially of boys and then girls/women in Vedanta Women’s Football League Championship held in February – March 2021.

The girls have been carefully selected by well-known scouts working with the underprivileged and marginalised communities and there are five girls from Manipur, three girls from Tamil Nadu, one girl each from Kerala and Maharashtra; and 14 girls from Goa, says the press release.
