KES Shri Jayantilal H. Patel College, Mumbai, triumphed at the third edition of the Justice G. D. Kamat Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2025 organised by V. M. Salgaocar College of Law (VMSCL).

Retired Justice Utkarsh V. Bakre was the chief guest and presented the prizes in the presence of Principal Dr. Shaber Ali G., Vice-President of VMSCL Management Committee DSES, Bhaskar Nayak, Member of G.D. Kamat Charitable Trust, Ulhas Kamat, Faculty coordinator Dr. Sonal Sardessai and student co-ordinator Savni Prabhudesai among others.

The final round was judged by Sr. Adv. R. G Ramani, Sr. Adv. Surendra Desai and Dr. Shaber Ali. G. KES Shri Jayantilal H. Patel College, Mumbai were adjudged winners and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Runners-up – Christ University, Bangalore, were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 with trophies and merit certificates.


In addition to this, special awards were conferred. Best Mooter was bagged by Disha Lalit Jain from Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai. Best Researcher was secured by Nandana Suresh from Government Law College, Thrissur. They were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000, respectively, along with trophies and merit certificates. Shahaji Law College, Kolhapur secured the Best Memorial title and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, and a trophy and merit certificates were conferred upon them.

Ulhas Kamat on behalf of the Trust congratulated the organisers of the event and recalled his fond memories of Justice G.D Kamat and spoke about how his human side dominated his nature as a judge. He expressed how Justice G.D Kamat revolutionised Mundkarial and Agricultural Tenancy in Goa thereby helping many of the downtrodden.

In his speech, Bhaskar Nayak described the final round to be a feast of articulation, argumentativeness and professionalism. He was convinced that success would surely be in store for the teams. He also stated that as a lawyer you need not be a good one, what’s more important is to be a good person by serving society. He encouraged aspiring lawyers to aid in bringing justice to society by taking up Pro- Bono cases.

In his valedictory address, Retd. Justice Bakre praised all the participants for displaying excellence throughout the competition. He also recalled memories of being a part of VMSCL and expressed that Justice G.D Kamat Moot Court Competition brings out the true talent and skills of budding lawyers and felt that it is the best in India. He highlighted the importance of court manners and decorum and explained how Moot Court competitions help students experience what it feels like to participate in court proceedings and learn how to deal with any future challenges in practice.

Retd. Justice Bakre congratulated all the teams and conveyed that one should not be disheartened; rather, urged participants to view every experience as a stepping stone to future success. VMSCL organised this competition in collaboration with the Justice G.D. Kamat Charitable Trust which witnessed the participation of 26 teams representing prestigious institutions nationwide.
