Mandar Pradip Lad (Elo-1776) has won the National School Chess Championship 2023 in the Open Under-17 category. The event was held at Hosur-TN between 27th to 31st January.
Mandar scored 8 points out of a possible 9 from nine rounds. He won 7 rounds and drew 2 to remain unbeaten in the championship. He was the top-seed in the 71 players field, vieing for the Under-17 Open title.
Mandar was presented with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy. He has gained 30 Elo rating points from this tournament. Meanwhile, in the Under-11 Open category, Rajveer Patil (Elo-1370) finished in the 11th place and received a cash prize of Rs 2000. In all, 251 players participated in the U-11 Open category, stated a press release.
