With a total of 124 medals up for grabs, the 2nd West Zone Khelo India Women’s League / Ranking Judo Tournament witnessed the arrival of judokas from seven states namely – Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Daman & Diu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat besides hosts Goa, followed by accreditation and registrations on Tuesday. The competitive action is scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning.
The event, being hosted by Goa Judo Association at Sports Authority of Goa indoor stadium-Campal, will be formally inaugurated in the afternoon session at 4pm. Ajit Roy (IAS), Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Secretary Sports, Government of Goa will be the chief guest. The guest of honour is Yogesh Dhadve, Chairman, JFI organising committee and JUA Referee, HPM, SAI.
The event itinerary is as follows: 1st Feb: 9 weight divisions for sub-junior girls with 36 medals available. 2nd Feb: 8 weight divisions for cadet girls, with 32 medals to be won. 3rd Feb: 7 weight divisions for junior girls, with a total of 28 medals. The event will conclude on February 4 with senior women vying for 28 medals in 7 weight classes.
Goa will pin their hopes on Ima Patil, Disha Pujari, Gayatri Kapolkar, Purti Lotlikar and Summya Mishrikhoti who are the top judokas from the host state to win the home team a handful of medals.
“We are going to witness the top judo athletes from the Western region, who will compete in various categories and weight divisions. The event promises to be a showcase of strength, technique, and athleticism, as the participants strive to become champions and win the coveted medals,” noted Gurudatta Bhakta, host president.
