Museum of Goa (MOG), Pilerne, announces its collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities to promote diversity and inclusion through the power of art. This initiative will culminate in a special exhibition titled ‘Art Inc.’, aimed at showcasing the creative talents of persons with disabilities (PwD) based in Goa.

The ‘Art Inc.’ exhibition will be hosted at MOG’s renowned Pilerne venue, known for its dedication to contemporary art and community engagement. Artists with disabilities are encouraged to participate and submit their creative proposals for this exhibition. The call for entries is now open, with a submission deadline of June 23, 2024.

Speaking on the collaboration, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar stated, “We are excited to join forces with ‘Art Inc.’ for this first-of-its-kind inclusive art event, which highlights the remarkable creativity within our disabled community. This initiative not only provides a valuable platform for artists with disabilities but also underscores our dedication to fostering an environment where everyone can contribute and enjoy our cultural landscape. We encourage all to participate in this event, celebrating the diversity and talent of our community.”

Curated by writer and art consultant Samira Sheth, MOG will host the ‘Art Inc.’ exhibition in collaboration with the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities of the Government of Goa, not-for-profit organisation EnAble India, and International Purple Fest Goa.

“A first-of-its-kind art exhibition at MOG in collaboration with the Office of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Goa, ‘Art Inc.’ will showcase the artworks of persons with disabilities. The exhibition will serve as a space that fosters artistic aspirations and allows for discussions around art and disability,” said Sharada Kerkar, operational head at MOG and co-founder of Children’s Art Studio (CAS) at Pilerne.

Applicants can submit high-resolution images of up to five artworks via the application form, along with relevant information. The exhibition will accept sculptures, paintings, photographs and digital prints from Goa-based artists of all ages, who fall under the category of PwD. Applications on behalf of organisations and studios are also accepted. No formal art training is required.

After a careful curatorial process, selected candidates will receive a confirmation email by June 30, and will have to drop off their artwork(s) at MOG or specified drop-off points across North Goa and South Goa on July 6 and 7. The exact locations will be included in the email.

“We will follow a rigorous though supportive curation process focused on bringing artworks of quality to those who appreciate good art. ‘Art Inc.’ is a wonderful opportunity to pick up artworks at reasonable prices and support artists with disabilities in the process,” said Sheth.

The selected artists will have the opportunity to reach out to a wider audience, exposing their art to more visitors and potential buyers. The artists will be effectively assisted with their artwork pricing. All proceeds generated through sales will go to the artist.
