NATIONAL AIDS CONTROL ORGANISATION’S SPORTING EVENT SET FOR FITTING FINALE IN GOA

The upcoming National Red Run finale on 8th October in Goa, will bring around 150 winners of state-level Red Runs and thus provide a fitting climax to the initiative of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), which aims to spread awareness about refraining from high risk behaviour and inspire the youth to adopt healthy hobbies.

The 10km race for national contestants in men, women and transgender categories will have cash prizes ranging from Rs 50,000 for winners, Rs 35,000 and Rs 15,000.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Union MoS Shripad Naik will grace the occasion, revealed GSACS Project Director Dr. Gokuldas Sawant after unveiling the logo on Tuesday. Umakant Sawant, Joint-Director (IEC); Sunita Arudra, Asst.Director, and Jeunesse Fernandes, Asst.Director, were also present.

“A maximum of 500 locals can also participate in a 2km run. Medals and certificates will be given away in the public event,” added Dr Sawant.

Moreover, the NACO in collaboration with various State AIDS Control Societies including the Goa State AIDS Control Society, has constituted around 13 Thousand Red Ribbon Clubs (RRC) across the country. There are 169 Red Ribbon Clubs in Goa.

The objective of RRC is to encourage the youth for community outreach messaging on HIV prevention and to provide a safe space for young people to seek clarifications to their doubts and myths surrounding HIV/AIDS, STI and drug abuse.
