“More than 500 athletes and young participants are expected to take part in the Marathon for Nasha Mukt Yuva, reflecting the strong response and enthusiasm for this important campaign. Details of the run event were announced at a press conference held at Miramar, where the organisers highlighted the significance of bringing together Goa’s sporting community and youth for the Nasha Mukt Yuva campaign. The Goa Olympic Association, MY Bharat and Sports Authority of Goa are jointly collaborating to organise the event.
“I appeal to athletes, sportspersons and the entire sporting community of Goa to come together and participate in this initiative. Through the strength of sport, we can send a powerful message to our youth about fitness, healthy living and staying away from drugs and substance abuse.” said Rajya Sabha MP and Goa Olympic Association President Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
The run will be held on Sunday, October 4, as part of Government of India’s Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – 100 Sundays Campaign. Registration at the venue will commence at 6 am, with the event to be flagged off at 7 am from Miramar Circle, proceeding to Caranzalem Park and returning to Miramar Circle. Dr Chandrakant Shetye, MLA, Bicholim; Vasant Agshikar, Deputy Mayor, CCP; and Shekhar Degvekar, CCP Councillor, will be among those who will flag off the event. Participation is completely free, with the first 500 participants at the venue receiving T-shirts, while certificates, medals and refreshments will be provided to all registered participants.
GOA Secretary General, Sandeep Heble said, “The Goa Olympic Association has 33 State Sports Associations affiliated to it, besides several other recognised associations. We invite all these associations to send their athletes and sportspersons and be part of this initiative.” GOA Treasurer Jayesh Naik added, “Many top athletes will be participating in this run, we hope to create a strong and positive movement for fitness, healthy living and a drug-free society.” Samyek Meshram, Assistant Director, MY Bharat, Goa, spoke about the significance of the campaign and the need for greater youth participation in creating awareness against drug and substance abuse.
