PANAJI: Panjim Gymkhana ‘A’ beat Amravati SC by 7 wickets on Friday and booked a semi-final clash with Maratha Warriors, in Bandodkar Trophy cricket tournament organised by Panjim Gymkhana at the club ground at Campal.
Amravati SC won the toss and elected to bat. With wickets falling at regular intervals, there were hardly any substantial contribution from the batsmen and Amravati were all out for 158 runs in 33.2 overs. Vinay Amonkar (30), Pratik Bhagat (29), Mahadev Gawas (23) and Aniket Amonkar (20) were amongst the runs as they got off to a start but failed to play for long duration.
For Panjim Gymkhana, left-arm spinner Sher Bahadur Yadav was once again the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/33 while Somesh Prabhudesai took two wickets. Mahesh Bahadkar, Robin D’Souza and Saurabh Bandekar took one wicket apiece.
The hosts then had little difficulty in reaching the victory target and ended up with 161/3 in 22.1 overs. Suraj Dongre was the top-scorer with an unbeaten knock of 61 runs to guide Panjim Gymkhana home in the company of Aniket Desai (25 not out). Rajat Shet scored 30 while Aditya Naik made 21 runs.
Paresh Phadte, Mahadev Gawas and Aniket Amonkar claimed one wicket each for Amravati SC.
