Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the 37th National Games on 26th October at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda. The biggest ever Games with 43 disciplines and over 10 thousand athletes is a world record in the offing, announced the Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday.
The Prime Minister will declare the 37th National Games open in a grand opening ceremony, which will begin at 6.30pm at the 12,000-capacity stadium at Fatorda, informed the CM. Sports Minister Govind Gaude; GTCC chairman, Indian Olympic Association, Amitabh Sharma; Secretary, Sports, Swetika Sachan (IAS) were also present for the briefing.
“Never ever in the history of National Games have this big number of sports disciplines been held. We will host 43 disciplines at 28 venues, 750 events; and 10,806 athletes will participate. Out of this, 49 percent are women. Over four thousand technical officials will be present. We welcome the biggest ever Games. It is a world record,” stated Dr Sawant at a urgently called press conference on Friday afternoon.
