PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a nation-wide scheme for empowering traditional artisans. The scheme has also been providing a platform for women to nurture their creativity to achieve economic independence in Goa.
In the coir processing industry, women have been trained to produce various products from coir, which is in abundance in Goa because of the commonly found coconut palms.
The training ranges from a month to six-month duration and the trainees involved in crafting handicraft items, also gain a stipend. Moreover, the women also get subsidy to buy the machinery and work from home.
