PRAGYA AUDI STUNS 2ND SEED SHANVI NIMMA; AVNI–AMAIRA DUO ENTERS PRE-QUARTERS AT U13 RANKING BADMINTON IN SOUTH GOA

Goa’s rising stars shone bright on Day three of the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-13) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025, as Pragya Audi produced the upset of the day, stunning second seed Shanvi Nimma of Telangana 14-21, 21-17, 21-14 in a thrilling Girls Singles Round of 32 clash at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim.

The gritty comeback win saw Pragya storm into the Pre-Quarterfinals to loud cheers from the local crowd. Earlier, Goa’s doubles pair Avni Khyalia and Amaira Dhumatker too made it to the last-16 in Girls Doubles, defeating the Andhra pair Evelyn Priyank Chavali and Sri Pravya Ponnaganti 21-14, 21-16 in straight games.

Goa’s top ranked shuttler Michael Ryan Mare fought hard but went down to Karnataka’s Nakulan Hari N. D. 12-21, 17-21 in the Boys Singles Round of 64. In Boys Doubles, the Goan top pair of Vishwa Parab and Samarth Sakhalkar fell to the Telangana duo Advait Sattu and Advik Shukla 5-21, 9-21. Goa’s Neil Punjani Bakshi lost to Sanshray Sunil of Karnataka 6-21, 4-21 in the main draw.

In the Girls Singles, Avni Khyalia of Goa fought hard before losing to Andhra’s Keya Kosaraju 21-17, 21-14 in the round of 64. Earlier, Michael and  his partner Sai Charith Abbu of Telangana went down in the final qualification round to Swarit Kumar and Ilanjithra Dev R. by 15-12, 15-9.

Among India’s top players, Boys Singles top seed Jashwanth Mahamkali (AP) progressed with a hard-fought 21-17, 23-21 win over Anand Maderana (RAJ), while third seed Nomaan Pappu (TN) cruised past Sai Lingesh (KTK) 21-6, 21-9.

In Girls Singles, top seed Asha Sree Dandu (AP) registered straight-game victories in both rounds, and seventh seed Anya Proddatur (TS) was equally dominant in her 21-6, 21-6 win over Thanisshta Srinivas Kumar (TS). In yet another major upset of the day, the Andaman pair of Tagu Debia and Kyon Tamin upset the second seeds Adhvik Arvind and Methelan Prathima (TN) 24-22, 21-11 in Boys doubles.
