Prashant Kamat & Hemant Ramani (Super Group), Amit Naik & Xisto Fernandes (Elite Group) bagged top honours at the 5th Dr. Filipe Pinto Memorial All-Goa Table Tennis Tournament organised by Kabir Pinto Makhija in association with Clube Vasco da Gama, at the Clube premises in Panaji.
Gouramangi Singh, former India footballer and currently assistant-coach of FC Goa, was the Chief Guest. Nitin Bandekar, industrialist and President of Vasco Sports Club, was the Guest of Honour at the finals and prize distribution function.
Earlier, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik graced the inaugural ceremony. Secretary to Chief Minister, Ajit Roy, IAS, was also present.
The tournament witnessed exciting participation. In the Super Group summit clash, Prashant Kamat & Hemant Ramani beat John Xavier & Vikas Prabhu 3 – 1.
The semi-finals saw John Xavier and Vikas Prabhu beating Raj lotlikar and Mohammed Mazar Shaikh 3-2; while Prashant Kamat and Hemant Ramani blanked Dr. Brennan Tavares and Peter Cordeiro 3 – 0.
In the Elite Group title-clash, Amit Naik & Xisto Fernandes beat Sachin Soares & Rajendra Parsekar 3 – 1.
In the Semi-finals – Sachin Soares and Rajendra Parsekar beat Yousuf Sheikh and Rajendra Naik 3-2; Amit Naik and Xisto Fernandes beat Joseph Sequeira and Sanjoy Sankalp 3-1.
The prize distribution ceremony was also graced by Xacuntala Pinto Makhija, Kabir Pinto Makhija, Soraya Pinto Makhija, Chaitanya Tarcar, Clive Sequeira, Tony Dias and others.
