A batch of specially-abled, hearing and speech-impaired students from Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim; visited ICAR Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), on an educational tour on 28th July.
A total of 13 students including seven girls and six boys along with three co-ordinators of these special students, participated in the interactive session with the Director of Institute Dr Parveen Kumar and other staff members.
The students were briefed on the various research activities ICAR-CCARI undertake for the farmers’ welfare in the coastal region of the country.
The farm visit to various units viz. Dairy unit, Fisheries, Poultry, Piggery and Horticultural fields, was conducted to showcase the Institute’s activities.
Benedicta Miranda, one of the co-ordinating teacher, interpreted all the conversation in a sign language to these hearing and speech-impaired students. The information given and all conversations were warmly welcomed by these special students by waving their hands in air with smile, on a number of times.
The Director, Dr. Parveen Kumar shared the role of ICCAR CCARI for the well-being of coastal farmers. He conveyed his feelings with these students and said it is crucial for society to recognise the potential and value of these children and to break down barriers that may limit their opportunities. By promoting inclusivity, providing appropriate resources, and celebrating their unique abilities, we can ensure that hearing and speech-impaired children can lead enriched lives and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. He, also, wished all the very best to all students and assured any further support in the knowledge sharing regarding coastal agriculture with these special students.
