PANAJI: Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) has congratulated its member and Konkani poet Sanjiv Verenkar, for winning the Sahitya Akademi Award 2021 in Konkani for his collection of poems ‘Raktachandan’.
The veteran journalist is known for his own reader-friendly style of writing. Verenkar’s recently-published Prerana-Rukh (inspirational tree) contains 21 biographical essays in Konkani illustrating the contributions of important 20th-century personalities of the Gomantak Maratha Samaj (GMS).
Author, Konkani poet and senior journalist Sanjiv Verenkar was born on August 29, 1959, at Savoi-Verem, Ponda. He was earlier awarded the prestigious Vimala Pai Puraskar for ‘Aswasth Surya’-Vishwa Konkani Kavita Kruti Puraskar, Dr. T.M.A Pai Foundation Award for ‘Sanj Sulus’, All India Radio Puraskar for ‘Vastu Purushacho Asth Zatana’ and Konkani Bhasha Mandal Puraskar for ‘Bhavjumbar’ and ‘Mumbar’.
