The curtain-raiser for the eighth edition of the Science Film Festival of India-2023 (SCI-FFI) was held at DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo H.S.S of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira on Saturday, 21st January 2023.
Prof. Harilal Menon, Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, was the Chief Guest at the event. Prof. Arun Kulkarni, Scientist, BITS Goa, Suhas Godse, President of Vidnyan Parishad Goa, and Vilas Chowdhari, Project Coordinator at the Goa Science Centre, were also present at the event.
Prof. Harilal Menon encouraged the students to develop a passion for science and motivated them to serve the nation through science. While guest speaker Prof. Arun Kulkarni presented some major science discoveries and recent developments in the study of Gravitational Waves to the audience.
A promo video for SCI-FFI 2023 was shown on the occasion to acquaint students with the event. Suhas Godse, President of Vidnyan Parishad Goa, also spoke about the organisation’s mission to popularise science and informed the audience about SCI-FFI 2023’s various events, which will reflect theme ‘Pancha-tatva’.
The programme began with a melodious Saraswati Vandana presented by students of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo H.S.S., followed by lighting of the traditional lamp.
Principal Surekha Kelkar of the host institution welcomed the gathering and introduced luminaries on the dais. Prof. I.K. Pai, Vice-President of Vidnyan Parishad Goa delivered a vote of thanks.
Students and teachers from DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Arts, Science and Commerce, Dr K.B Hedgewar Higher Secondary School and Mushtifund Higher Secondary School attended the event.
