PANAJI: Sidharth Kundaikar scored a brace for Calangute Association as they twice came from behind to hold Sporting Clube de Goa to a 2-2 draw in Goa Football Association’s Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday.
In the other game, FC Goa and Guardian Angel shared the spoils with a 1-1 stalemate under the floodlights.
In the first of the double-header, Sporting Clube de Goa took the lead through Philip Odogwu. Clive Miranda delivered a long throw in, into the box to Philip, who beat his marker Melvin Lobo with a brilliant turn and connected a out-foot shot to score past Paramveer Singh.
Calangute came back strongly in the second half. They nearly got the equaliser when Melvin played a lobbed ball into the area to Daryl Costa, with only keeper at his mercy, his placement however, hit the post.
Calangute were rewarded for their constant pressure in the 53rd minute. Daryl Costa made a fine run on the right flank beating Sporting’s Alton Vaz with his pace and on reaching the byline, squared the ball into the six-yard box to Sidharth Kundaikar, who scored with a simple low shot into an empty net.
Sporting Clube regained their lead in the 67th minute when Assumption Soares sent a perfect delivery from a free-kick to Alton Vaz at the far post. Alton fired a low shot across the face of the goal which was guided in by Marcus.
Calangute Association scored a late equaliser through Sidharth Kundaikar from a direct free-kick.
In the following floodlit match, FC Goa and Guardian Angel SC played out a 1-1 draw.
While there was no score in the first 45 minutes, FC Goa were the first team to break the deadlock and the goal came in the 69th minute when Velroy Fernandes sent a low cross into the box which was perfectly met by Joybert Almeida. The second half substitute slammed the ball into the roof of the net, giving no chance for the rival goalkeeper.
FC Goa had a chance to double the lead when Ivan played a long ball into the area which cracked open the Guardian Angel defence and found Christy Davis. However, the last-named could not keep his composure as he shot wide.
Guardian Angel SC scored a superb equaliser in the 87th minute when Nicholas threaded a pass to Joel Bareto on the left flank. The midfielder scored a stunning curler from outside the box to stun the FC Goa custodian Antonio D’Silva.
