PANAJI: Konkani short film ‘Carlo’ based on the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis, will be premiered at the Global Taj International Film Festival (GTIFF). The fourth edition of GTIFF will be held from November 11 to 13 in Agra.

‘Carlo’ – a short film of 36 minutes run-time and shot entirely in Goa, has been written, directed and produced by Fr Leslie Bosco Rego.

“Carlo Acutis was a saint who was a genius with knowledge of computer where he used his expertise to do good work, devoted to his duty to help others. He died at a young age and was blessed in October 2020,” said Fr Leslie, who revealed that he has been inspired by the London-born saint.

“The message from the film is for the youth to use the modern-day gadgets wisely just like Carlo Acutis,” stressed Fr Leslie during a press conference here today.

The film-maker also disclosed that ‘Carlo’ could be featured in Goan category at the upcoming 53rd International Film Festival of India. Fr Leslie has submitted the film and is awaiting the decision.

Sanroy Savio D’Souza has acted in the lead role in this devotional short film. The 21-year-old Merces-based entrepreneur expressed his joy of doing his first film, saying: ” It was a good learning experience. In the course of the film, I had to read about him to know how he was… It was an inspiration to me to look up to the ‘internet saint’, learn his teaching. In the era where misuse of technology is common, the youth needs to utilise the internet for good by getting inspired from the story of Carlo Acutis.

“Being the first film, I was a bit nervous. Fr Leslie provided a lot of help for the role. I hope a lot of people will watch the film,” added Sanroy.
