A state-level seminar titled “The Importance of Strong Family Bonds in Building Resilient Individuals” was held recently at St. Joseph Vaz College. Organised by the Counseling Cell and IQAC in collaboration with the Diocesan Family Service Centre, the seminar drew 72 participants from various colleges across Goa.
Rev. Prof. Simao Diniz, the college Administrator, welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of focusing on family resilience. Aroma Diniz, the seminar coordinator, provided an overview of the event, and Fr. Albano Fernandes, the Chief Guest, spoke about the challenges families face and expressed gratitude for the initiative. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by IQAC coordinator Viona Correia.
The seminar featured three insightful technical sessions. The first session, “Fostering a Healthier Lifestyle in the Family,” was conducted by Fr. Albano Fernandes, who highlighted the importance of healthy habits, fostering appreciation, and responding to challenges with love. The second session, “Building Effective Communication Strategies for Families,” was led by Dr. Roshan Nazareth and focused on assertive communication, family meetings, and the importance of expressing gratitude. The third and final session, “Strengthening Family Bonds and Relationships,” was presented by Dr. Ehrlson de Souza and Beverly de Souza, offering practical steps for nurturing deeper family connections.
Following the technical sessions, an interactive group activity was conducted by Rev. Prof. Bolmax Pereira and Dr. Melvin D’Souza, where participants created a “Family Resilience Tree” in 30 minutes and presented their work. This activity reinforced the key lessons from the sessions while fostering collaboration among attendees.
The event concluded with a valedictory session where participants expressed their appreciation for the informative sessions and engaging activities. The seminar successfully emphasized the significance of family resilience and provided actionable strategies to strengthen familial bonds.
