St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, won both the men and women basketball championship 2022-23, organised by Goa University at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium from 24th to 27th January, 2023.
In the men’s championship final, St. Xavier’s College defeated Goa Medical College, Bambolim, with a final score 47-34.
In the well-contested women’s championship final, St. Xavier’s College defeated S.S. Dempo College, Cujira, 26-25.
Earlier in the semi-finals of the women’s section, S.S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, defeated V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, 26-06, while St. Xavier’s College defeated Don Bosco College, Panaji, 37-18.
In the men’s semi-finals, Goa Medical College defeated Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, 37-19. St. Xavier’s College defeated Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, 66-45.
In total, 16 men’s and 9 women’s teams participated in the three-day Inter-College Basketball Championship.
Chief guest Fr Ralin De Souza, Member of Sports Council, Goa University, and Secretary of Goa Basketball Association gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Olencio Dias, Technical Committee member, Goa Basketball Association.
