The Tech Media Startup Expo 2024 organised by the Startup & IT Promotion Cell of the Department of ITE&C, successfully concluded after five impactful days of showcasing groundbreaking innovations at the intersection of technology and media. The event featured transformative technologies through 8 promising startups, demonstrating Goa’s potential to grow as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. The Expo also highlighted emerging opportunities in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and the Metaverse, emphasizing their role in shaping the future of media production and storytelling.
The IT & Tourism Minister, Rohan A. Khaunte launched the ‘Behind the Scene’ app during the Expo. This platform bridges the gap between filmmakers and innovators, creating a collaborative space for storytelling and technology integration. The launch highlights Goa’s commitment to positioning itself as a future-ready destination for media and innovation. Khaunte underscored the importance of collaboration between policymakers and innovators in fostering Goa’s media-tech ecosystem. He emphasised Goa’s transformation from a tourist destination into a hub of creativity and entrepreneurship, committed to providing the resources and support needed for innovation to thrive.
Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, Chairman of InfoTech Corporation of Goa, reinforced the government’s commitment to nurturing startups and urged participants to leverage technology combined with creativity to succeed in this dynamic field.
Eight promising Startups selected by the Startup & IT Promotion Cell and given an opportunity through the Tech Media Startup Expo 2024 to present their innovative solutions tailored to the evolving media-tech landscape on the global stage of IFFI. The featured startups included – Fandora; A platform enabling users to invest in and co-own content IP across films, sports, and OTT series, PostMyAd; A digital ad management platform offering remote control of billboard campaigns, PYC AI; A global platform for licensing voices, avatars, and personas for artists and businesses. Character XYZ; An AI-powered service that offers characters-as-a-service for immersive games and experiences and Goan Narrative; A live streaming and documentary production platform showcasing local stories. These startups, along with others like Behind The Scene, Yellow Whale Labs and RecoBee, emphasised Goa’s potential as a growing tech and innovation hub. With government support and active participation from global stakeholders, the Tech Media Startup Expo has laid a strong foundation for future events that will further Goa’s vision as a hub for technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
The five-day Expo provided a platform for startups, technologists, and global thought leaders to discuss and explore pressing challenges and opportunities within the media-tech industry. Each day brought a distinct theme like discussions on the future of media production explored the integration of AR and MR technologies into filmmaking processes and Fireside chats that emphasized how technology bridges geographies to foster global media collaboration. Startups also received valuable feedback from experts, helping them refine their strategies for scalability and market entry. Importantly, the Expo facilitated active engagement between global delegates, local entrepreneurs, and industry leaders, resulting in three startups expressing their intent to establish operations in Goa.
The closing ceremony, attended by dignitaries and participants, marked the culmination of an event that successfully connected startups with investors, showcased transformative ideas, and strengthened Goa’s position as a dynamic centre for media and technology innovation.
