As part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ fortnight, Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant urged panchayats and municipalities along with people of Goa to do everything possible to keep the state clean.
Addressing a virtual interaction, the Chief Minister hailed the exemplary work being done by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), which has also emerged as the Swachhata Knowledge Partners at the National level. Dr. Sawant also praised majority of the panchayats putting in efforts to maintain cleanliness in their respective villages; while also appealing to those panchayats falling short to improve their functioning.
People who dump garbage by the roadside or in waterbodies, have also been warned of monetary fines as well as seizing the vehicle used in the polluting act. The Chief Minister urged them to give their waste via proper segregation at the designated collection centres.
‘Waste to wealth’ is the mantra for the Government of Goa, emphasied Dr Sawant as he highlighted the power generated by the widely-acclaimed SWMC infrastructure at Saligao, along side the compost being produced.
The Chief Minister also appealed to implement ‘Ek tareekh ek ghanta ek saath’: One hour cleanliness drive on October 1.
