PANAJI: Wicket-keeper and hard-hitting batsman Eknath Kerkar has been named captain of Goa for 2021-22 season-opening Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to be held from 27th October to 09th November 2021 in Lucknow.
Former captain in the Mumbai youth cricket setup, Eknath had joined Goa last season on the professional quota. He emerged top run-getter for the State at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year.
Meanwhile, off-spinner Amit Yadav has staged a comeback into the Goa side after a gap of three years. Shubham Ranjane and Shreekant Wagh, who are also professionals, joined Goa this year and made the cut for the BCCI Twenty20 championship.
Goa Cricket Association Senior Men’s Selection Committee Meeting was held to select the team on Monday, in the presence of Vipul Phadke – Secretary, Prakash Mayenkar – Director of Coaching and Cricket Operations; Selectors – Girish Parekh – Chairman, Anand Mapankar – Member and Sanjay Dhuri – Member.
