Teddy Cardozo from Curca-Bambolim won the “Lionathan”, an all-Goa 10-kilometre run, organised by Lions Club at Farmagudi-Ponda on Sunday (January 21). The running event drew a participation of total 750 athletes in different categories.
In the 10km open male category, Teddy Cardozo won the first place while Pradip Shivdas Naik was the runner-up. Sunil Gaonkar and Nandesh Gaonkar finished in the third and fourth position respectively.
In the 5 km run for the age-group of 21- 40 years women category, Ankita Gaonkar won the first place while Manisha Priolkar and Siddhi Madkaikar clinched the second and third place respectively. In the men’s section, Hari Velip emerged the winner. Suraj Velip and Akash Saroj stood on the second and third position respectively.
In the 5 km event for under-21 age group in women’s category, Ankita Velip won the first place. Siya Naik was the runner-up while Sanisha Hivarekar grabbed the third position. In the under-21 age-group men’s category in the 5km run, Udesh Pandurang Majik emerged the winner; while Tejas Gaonkar was the runner-up. Tulshidas finished third.
In the 3km event, Akshata Dodamani, Shefali Gaude and Samruddhi Patil won the first, second and third place respectively in under-16 category. The same category for the boys saw Shashank Khushali Gande, Vikas Pal and Rahul Chanhan winning the first, second and third position respectively.
Among the dignitaries present were Ritesh Naik, Chairman of Ponda Municipal Council, President of Lions Club of Ponda, Dr. Uday Kudalkar, Naresh Gaunekar and journalist Durgaprasad Pai of Antruz Patrakar Sangh, District Governor of Lions Club Erle Britto, Lion Glenda Britto, Lion Sudesh Borkar, Lion Manish Dhareshwar, Lion Eknath Karkal, Premanand Kudalkar and Dr. Vedpal Tari. Ashit Verekar from Ponda compered the prize distribution ceremony.
