The King’s School won Goa Cricket Association’s Dilip Sardesai Trophy under-16 title with a comprehensive six-wicket victory over LD Samant HS in the final at Panjim Gymkhana ground.
Batting first, LD Samant HS rode on a fine unbeaten century by opener Mihir Kudalkar (105 off 107 balls; 15×4, 1×6) to post a total of 201 before being bowled out by the end of the allotted 40 overs. Jai Jaggal scored 35 runs off 45 balls (5×4, 1×6) while Tanmay Walavalkar made 10 runs off 21 balls. Extras contributed 37 runs to the total with 25 of those coming from wides.
N Venkat Chigurupati was the chief wicket-taker for The King’s School, with 4/46 off 8 overs being his return. Captain Aradhya Goyal (2/29), Shamik Kamat (1/26) and Jai Kanguri (1/34) also tasted success with the ball.
In reply, The King’s School got off to a rollicking start with Aradhya Goyal and Gaurish S putting on 135 runs in 21.5 overs for the opening wicket to put their school on the path of victory.
Gaurish top-scored with 71 runs off 100 balls, which included 11 boundaries. Aradhya had a better strike-rate of the two openers as he scored 61 runs off 59 balls, which consisted eight hits to the fence. Shamik (14), Venkat Chigurupati (12 not out) and Ishaan Hodarkar (12 not out) scored handy runs to complete a comfortable run-chase with The King’s School reaching 202/4 in 35 overs.
LD Samant HS captain Rajdeep Patil, Mihir Kudalkar, Arnay Apte and Ajinkya Bhatkande took one wicket each.
