Top seeds Jashwanth Mahamkali (Andhra Pradesh) and Asha Sree Dandu (Andhra Pradesh) marched into the semi-finals with contrasting wins on day four of the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-13) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025 at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim.
While Jashwanth recovered from a game down to beat Gujarat’s Darsh Joshi 17-21, 21-10, 21-3, Asha Sree was pushed to the limit by Telangana’s Anya Proddatur before clinching a 21-18, 17-21, 21-16 victory.
Other Boys Singles semi-finalists include Nomaan Pappu (3), Tamil Nadu, Shlok Roy, Haryana, and Vivaan Shah (8), Gujarat, while the Girls Singles draw saw Punya MN (Karnataka), Kyra Raina (5), Maharashtra, and Bitama Paul (6), West Bengal progress.
Goa’s campaign ended in the pre-quarterfinals stage with a commendable run from local talents. In Girls Singles, Pragya Audi, who had earlier stunned the second seed, went down to Karnataka’s Akshara Shrinidhi 5-21, 10-21.
The Girls Doubles pair of Avni Khyalia and Amaira Dhumatkar fought hard but bowed out to the Andhra Pradesh duo Asha Sree Dandu and Kavya Sriram, 21-18, 12-21, 10-21 in a tight three-game battle.
In Boys Doubles, the in-form Tagu Debia and Kyon Tamin of Arunachal Pradesh knocked out second seeds Rohan Karuturi and Ishaan Pathak (Karnataka) in straight games, 23-21, 21-16. In Girls Doubles quarterfinals, Odisha’s pair Laxmi Priya Gachhayat and Saanvi Sahu secured a spot in the semis with a 21-14, 21-17 win over Rajasthan’s Kiara Goyal and Padmja Singh.
The tournament, organised by the Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India and the Sports Authority of Goa, moves into its final stages on Friday with all semifinal action lined up.
