PANAJI: Tri Goa will organise the ‘Audax Centenary’ 200km BRM (Brevets Randonneur Mondiaux) endurance cycle ride on Sunday, September 19.

A media release on behalf of Tri Goa founder Rajesh Malhotra, informed that the endurance cycle ride would start in Panaji at 6 am.

“The endurance cyclists will have to complete the distance within 13.5 hrs to qualify and get a special, centenary medal from the Audax Club Paris (ACP), France,” said Malhotra.

According to Malhotra, a 100km cycle ride has also been organised on the same day and finishers would be eligible for an exclusive medal and certificate. “Arrangements for breakfast, refreshments and hydration have been made along the 100km route,” he added.

Paris is the home of the BRM, endurance cycling tradition. In 1904, Henri Desgrange, founder of the Tour de France founded Audax France on the model of Audax Italiano. He conferred on the Audax Club Paris (ACP), newly created on November 30, 1904, the authority to certify brevets (endurance cycle rides) ridden under the Audax rules in France. In the early years, only the 200km distance was considered to be a Brevet, the completion of which entitled a cyclist to be designated an “Audax”. This was soon followed by the 300km, 400km and 600km BRM cycle rides. “By 1921, the designation of ‘Audax’ had been conferred on 4,500 French cyclists. This is why Brevets are being organised across the world to celebrate the ACP Centenary Year 2021,” said Malhotra.

Tri Goa is an affiliate of Audax Club Paris, France, and Audax India Randonneurs; and organises long-distance cycling and running events. Log onto www.trigoa.org to register for the September 19, 200km ride or whatsapp 7447724744 for more details.
