TRIBAL LIVELIHOOD MIGRATION SURVEY IN GOA, DISHA FOUNDATION APPOINTED TECHNICAL SUPPORT AGENCY

Tribal Research Institute (TRI) in collaboration with Disha Foundation, are doing a Tribal Livelihood Migration Survey under the patronage of the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Government of Goa. The survey undertaken in Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona talukas; has so far covered 5581 households and 22,324 individuals, revealed Dasharath Redkar, Director of Tribal Welfare Department during a press briefing on Friday.

The objectives of the said survey is to understand and analyse the factors influencing the livelihoods and migration to towns and cities. As such, the conditions faced by the Tribal population will enable the government to provide relevant support accordingly as the collected data from the survey will be crucial to formulate the policy document.

Rajendra Mirajkar, Director of Tribal Research Institute, appealed to the Tribal people to open up to the survey so that a clear picture can be formed.

Dr Anjali Borhade, Founder President of Disha Foundation, expressed satisfaction at the response from the households during the ongoing survey.

Program Officer of Disha Foundation, Vinit Kundaikar disclosed that the endeavour is to understand the ways and means to provide more opportunities to aid the livelihoods in the villages itself.

Disha Foundation, a Centre of Excellence in Migration, Health and Development, has been working in the field for two decades across the country; and has been appointed as the technical support agency by Government of Goa.

The target of the survey is to cover North and South Districts, including approximately 2 Lakh individuals across 40 thousand households.
