International Master Subhayan Kundu of West Bengal emerged the champion at the Unity Club 2nd Open Blitz Chess Tournament 2025
at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
On the top board, Kundu got the better of Edrick Vaz of Salcete, staying unbeaten throughout the tournament and collecting 7 points. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 and a trophy. Rushikesh Kabnurakar defeated Saras Summer Powar to finish 2nd with 6 points. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 3,500 and a trophy. Edrick Vaz finished 3rd and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2,500 and a trophy.
Kanishk Sagar Sawant beat Sumeetkumar M S to finish 4th with 6 points and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1,500 and a trophy. Sairaj Dilip Vernekar defeated Shresth Suraj Ghonsekar in the final round to finish 5th with 6 points. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1,000 and a trophy.
The 6th to 15th prize winners are as follows: Pushkar Dere, Joshua Mark Telles, Prashanth J Naik, Saurish Kashelkar, Rajveer Patil, Nadar Thangraj, Rachel Pereira, Bezstrakhov Dmitry, Aayush Shirodkar, and Chaitanya V Gaonkar.
The tournament had a total cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and 33 trophies. The arbiters team included IA Ashesh Keni, Chief Arbiter of the tournament, IA Jostna Saripali, Deputy Chief Arbiter, FA Asha Shirodkar, NA Ridikesh Dilip Vernekar, NA Anushka Naik, and NA Abhishesh Narayan Prabhu Dessai.
