Katya Coelho of Goa Yachting Association (GYA) won gold medal in the IQ Foil women’s class category at the recently-concluded YAI Senior Nationals and first round of Asian Games Selections Trials for the IQ Foil Category held at INWTC Mumbai from 13th to 20th Nov 2022.
With this success, Katya ensured her strong contention to secure a spot and chance to represent India at the upcoming Asian Games in China.
Pearl Colvalkar, who recently won back-to-back bronze medals at the Youth Nationals, narrowly missed a medal in the seniors category by just 3 points and finished fourth.
However, misfortune marred Dayne Coelho’s qualification chances as he was tested positive for Dengue just 3 days before the start of the event and could not compete. In May 2022, both Dayne and Katya had qualified for the Asian Games but due to the postponement for the Games to 2023, the selection trials are being held afresh.
