PANAJI: Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh occupy the top three positions respectively as 16 teams moved into the 1/8 stage of the Recurve men’s team event on the opening day of the 42nd NTPC Junior National Archery Championship 2022 at Sports Authority of Goa ground, Campal here in Panaji, Goa on Friday.
Maharashtra collected a total of 1970 points with Parth Salunkhe being the top-scorer of the qualification round with 676 points. Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh tallied 1961 and 1959 points respectively.
Hosts Goa finished just outside the top-16 as they shot a collective points tally of 1865 to finish 17th, only a narrow margin of 2 points less than 16th placed West Bengal.
The ranking from 4th to 15th places are as follows: Madhya Pradesh (1947), Telangana (1935), Haryana (1933), SSCB (1931), Punjab (1928), Rajasthan (1919), Delhi (1907), SPSB (1903), Odisha (1894), Pondicherry (1889), Chhattisgarh (1876), Manipur (1873).
Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant declared the national championship open in the presence of Ajay Gaude, executive director of Sports Authority of Goa and Director of Sports & Youth Affairs; Archery Association of India secretary-general Pramod Chandurkar, treasurer Rajendra Singh Tomar; Amateur Archery Association Goa president Kiran Kandolkar, working president Dr Neelesh Korde, secretary Chetan Kavlekar and other dignitaries.
