The inaugural Zooter Goa Super League cricket tournament will commence at Panjim Gymkhana ground here on Saturday. Four franchise teams, namely Estilo Legends, Strikers, Naroo Panthers and Baale Tigers will vie for the title in this innovative cricket tourney.
Having made a name for themselves with such tourneys in Mumbai, Zooter are making inroads in the Goan circuit with a promise of providing an even keel in the formation of teams. As such, players ranging from the age of thirty years to 62 years, were in the mix at the players auction, that witnessed intense bidding from the think-tanks of respective owners – Dr Sagar Salgaocar, Balkrishna Hodarkar, Ilyas Naroo and Ashwin Chandiok.
Moreover, the tournament will also have a unique feel to it as it will be played with the pink ball, another first for a cricket tournament to be played in Goa.
Founder of Zooter, Shushrut Nasnodkar was delighted to have received a fine response in Goa. “Zooter has been operating in Mumbai for last five years, doing 33+ tourneys. So, we wanted to do a similar tourney in Goa. We thought we would start with four teams and get about 70 registrations, but we got such a big boost with 120 players registration for the auction,” he said.
Some of the renowned cricketers who will be in action include former Ranji Trophy all-rounders – Robin D’Souza and Saheel Dhuri; all-rounder Sayed Badi, who has played BCCI List A matches and T20 cricket for Goa; Vinod Wilson, all-rounder with big reputation from his performances for Goa Police; Basu Madar, Ninad Pawaskar, Shishir Divkar, Swapnil Malik, Kiran Shirvoikar, Mukhtar Kadri.
