Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte has announced that an MoU will be signed between the Government of Goa and B.S.P’s Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya & Research Centre (GAM&RC), Shiroda, so that it can act as an umbrella for future initiatives.

GAM&RC recently celebrated the 10th Ayurveda Day under the theme ‘Ayurveda for People and Planet’, reinforcing its commitment to holistic healthcare. The event also marked a milestone in the State’s healthcare sector with the inauguration of Goa’s first Cancer OPD in Ayurveda, paving the way for integrative and accessible cancer care through traditional medicine.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Khaunte, in the presence of Minister for WRD & Corporation,  Subhash Shirodkar; Dr. Yogesh Bendale, Owner Ayurved Rasayani – Pune and Dr. Sneha Bhagwat, President, Goa Council of Ayurveda. Adv. Narendra K. Sawaikar, President, Bharateeya Sanskriti Prabodhini, and senior faculty members of GAM&RC, were also present.

Khaunte said: “This institute has a proud history, having graduated more than 1,000 students, and has consistently delivered great service to Goa and to Ayurveda. We must see how best we can work together to create a strong future for the students who will become the next generation of Ayurvedic doctors. Our Chief Minister, himself a doctor, knows the importance of Ayurveda in the life of every citizen.

In a developed India, discipline, ethics and a healthy lifestyle are essential. People today are looking for alternatives and, with technology, have greater awareness and choices. Wellness has become an important subject, and people are ready to invest in a healthy and good life. This institute has produced many alumni who are examples of women’s empowerment and who are promoting Ayurvedic tourism. The opening of this Cancer OPD is not only about treating a disease but also about mental and emotional support for families. Wellness tourism is a priority for Goa, and I am confident this institute will play a key role in taking it forward. Jai Hind.”

The launch of the Cancer OPD in Ayurveda marks not only a new chapter for B.S.P. ‘s Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya & Research Centre but also underscores Goa’s growing focus on wellness and regenerative tourism. By integrating traditional knowledge with modern healthcare facilities, the State aims to position itself as a national leader in holistic health and wellness experiences.

This milestone initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals, empowering local communities and offering visitors authentic, healing experiences beyond beaches, strengthening Goa’s reputation as a destination for wellbeing as much as for leisure, stated a press release.
