MADGAON–KARWAR EXPRESS SET TO FOSTER STRONGER REGIONAL TIES

Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V. Somanna,  flagged off the Madgaon–Karwar Express service from Madgaon Railway Station on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in strengthening rail connectivity between Goa and the coastal districts of Karnataka.

The new train service is expected to provide a convenient, affordable and efficient travel option for commuters, students, tourists and business travellers, while further promoting tourism, trade and socio-economic development across the region.

Addressing the gathering, V. Somanna said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways has witnessed unprecedented modernisation and expansion aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing passenger experience.

He noted that the introduction of the Madgaon–Karwar Express reflects the Government’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the people and strengthening regional connectivity.

Goa PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, who was present on the occasion, welcomed the introduction of the new train service and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Railways for addressing a long-standing demand of the people of Goa and the neighbouring districts of Karnataka. He stated that the service would greatly benefit daily commuters, students, senior citizens and tourists, while contributing to economic growth and fostering closer ties between the two regions.

Kamat further emphasised that improved rail connectivity would support the development of tourism, commerce and employment opportunities, thereby benefiting people on both sides of the Goa–Karnataka border.

Director, Rajivkumar Mishra, Regional Railway Manager Asha Shetty, Senior Railway officials, public representatives, railway staff and citizens were present at the flagging-off ceremony.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from passengers and members of the public. The Madgaon–Karwar Express is expected to provide seamless travel connectivity along the Konkan region and further strengthen the railway network, contributing to the vision of a modern, efficient and passenger-centric Indian Railways.
